Apologies if this has been posted before. I just noticed Canon has 7 picture style files available on their Japan site (on an English language page too, fortunately).
Canon Picture Style Downloads
I have seen 4 of these mentioned on other sites, but it looks like there are 3 others that have not caught anybody's attention yet. The styles are: Studio Portrait, Snapshot Portrait, Nostalgia, Clear, Twilight, Emerald, and Autumn Hues. I personally shoot RAW normally and don't use Picture Styles. But I do think they are a nifty feature. These can be uploaded via EOS Utility, and at least on the 7D, you can choose any 3 to fill the 3 user setting slots on your camera.

The full names will appear on the screen, so you don't need to remember which numbers are which. This reminded me that when uploaded from the PC, Picture Styles encompass a LOT more settings than the basics that you can choose on the camera screen (e.g. Sharpness, contrast, etc.). They have full tone curves and color mappings, so these styles can apply very dramatic changes to the pictures. You can see them applied instantly when viewing via Live View mode, too. I'm not sure if these new Picture Styles are actually useful, but hope at a minimum they keep some of you amused.
I've never been impressed enough with the Adobe products to cough up the huge fur ball that the Creative Suite requires. But if they work with Elements I'll definitely have to take a look at them. TomJ wrote: You might want to try a plug-in for Photoshop that will give you all kinds of B&W film simulations as well as most popular and discontinued color film stocks. I personally use Alien Skin Exposure 2, but there are others out there as well. While not an in-camera picture style, these plug-ins are much more powerful and a lot of fun to play with as well. I'm pretty sure Exposure 2 has a free trial download. The only downside, they are kind of pricey.
You cannot - even creating a B&W picture style is very challenging. You can of course create an action in PS to add the noise for you so it will only be a click away. MisterBG wrote: MisterPootieCat wrote: but it doesn't give me the grainy, contrasty look of some films.
I can get close in-camera using higher ISO's with NR turned off and extra contrast dialed in. I'm getting better at tweaking for effect PP but think this would be a picture style I'd use a lot.
You could always download the Picture Style Editor program and try creating your own. I'm not sure you'll be able to simulate the grain effect though. To Err is Human, To really foul things up you need a computer.
Exciting news as once again we have updated our collection of Vision Wrangler or VW Canon Picture Styles / Picture Profiles that we have picked up from around the internet to now be 158 after finding the Similaar Suite of Flaat Picture Styles. The Similaar Suite of Flaat Picture Styles are designed for Contrast=-4; make sure that’s the value you use. As for the other parameters, Saturation=-2, Sharpness=2, Tone=0, but you should change those if you prefer some other values. Flaat1 is for low-DR situations, and for people that are used to shooting Neutral -4 Flaat2 would be my workhorse option; it will feel the most natural for people shooting with Technicolor CineStile or Marvels Cine Flaat3 is the one I’d use if I needed some extra DR; but not for everything: it’s more noisy Flaat4 is for very excepcional cases where I need as much DR as I can get The general advice for clean images would be: use the narrowest Flaat picture style that records enough DR for your shot.
If Flaat1 doesn’t give you clipped highlights or shadows, that route will lead to less noise and smoother gradients than using Flaat3. As always this is not a complete Picture Style collection by any means but just a huge chunk of the 158 styles we like to use from time to time. Hope you like using The 158 VW Canon Picture Styles / Picture Profiles too. So if you work with Canon DSLR cameras you will ask yourself at some stage this question “To shoot Flat or not to shoot Flat” as in to film with minimum saturation and contrast then manipulate in Post. This is not a piece on arguing for or against Shooting Flat as it may surprise you that some Shooters and Snappers out there like to have a baked in style at the coal face. It may be through experience, arrogance or sheer stupidity but for whatever reason there is a percentage of image manipulators out there that like to use Picture Styles that don’t contain the word Flat in them.
Everyone should have a preferred set of Picture Styles that they use on jobs other than the stock standard in camera ones supplied by Canon. If you never venture away from the presets are you really getting the most out of the camera and yourself? So help yourself to 158 simply stunning Canon Picture Styles including the Technicolor CineStyle and others collected from different people and places on the interweb. We didn’t make them but are grateful to the talented people who did. If you use them and like them then seek out the creator and thank them. If you do normally Shoot Flat then experiment with a few of the styles next when snapping / shooting or try a few picture styles filming or taking stills with a Baked In Look.
Go on live a little on the wild side. Thanks to Vision Wrangler for supplying the collection of Canon Picture Styles, Picture Profiles. Please follow on Twitter. Download Canon Picture Styles to your Canon DSLR camera. Big thanks to Similaar for making the new Flaat picture styles and if you like them then pop on over to and donate some money for a thank you.
Thanks also to for his efforts in providing Canon Pictures Styles that so many of us have enjoyed using.
A tool for Canon camera owners, Picture Style Editor is a free utility for working with RAW images produced by digital SLRs. Images can be previewed and edited within the program. Once installation has completed, you can drag-and-drop raw images into the interface of Picture Style Editor and immediately start editing them with several tools. At the moment, CRW, CR2, TIF and TIFF images are supported. Some of the image enhancements you can perform with Picture Style Editor are sharpness, color saturation, color tone, brightness and contrast, etc. Other settings include white balance and color temperature.
Adjustments made will be visible in the preview window. Picture Style Editor is pretty basic overall and cannot complete against professional packages like Adobe Lightroom, but it does provide a starting point for Canon EOS camera owners. Without it, a bare Windows installation would not be able to even view RAW image files.
